How to create a text file from a list of files in a folder

This morning, my boss told me to create an equipment maintenance manual extracted from Caterpillar SIS intended for ADT 730 (Articulated Dumptruck).

Every topic extracted were saved as pdf files which soon be merged into a single file before printing it as a whole manual.

And because I need to make a table of contents out of these topics (procedures), it made me think of how to make this work a little bit easier.

I tested the following syntax and it happened to be working as what I wanted to do.

dir > filename.txt
